Reconstructing Britain’s Trade Policy After Brexit

Today, 21st July 2016, Chatham House London, UK sees the following participants hold a launch event for the UK Trade Policy Observatory initiative.

Dr Kamala Dawar, Lecturer in Commercial Law, School of Law, University of Sussex
Dr Patrick Low, Visiting Professor, University of Sussex; Chief Economist, WTO (1997-2013)
Professor Jim Rollo, CMG, Professor Emeritus, University of Sussex; Associate Fellow, Chatham House
Prof L. Alan Winters, CB, Director UK Trade Observatory, University of Sussex
Chair: Dr Paola Subacchi, Research Director, International Economics, Chatham House

This event will launch the UK Trade Policy Observatory initiative, and will analyse the WTO-related issues raised by the UK taking up its new status as an individual member without the responsibilities of an EU member. Such a transition is seen by many as an automatic step, as currently the UK is a member in its own right as well through the EU. The panel will seek to explore whether or not that assumption of an automatic transition is problematic.

The UK Trade Policy Observatory is a new initiative by the University of Sussex, which has the largest concentration of economic, legal and international relations scholars with trade policy expertise and practitioner experience in Britain. The UKTPO is being launched in association with the International Economics department at Chatham House.
